Drew Koven is Founder, CEO, and Chief of 100% Customer Satisfaction for Geoff & Drew's Incredible Cookies, LLC. Geoff & Drew's began operations in 2001 as a late night cookie delivery service in Boston, Massachusetts. A chance article in Gourmet—which has been followed by over one hundred press articles and television coverage of the company—changed their direction. In three years, Geoff & Drew's has grown to be one of the top online/mail order retailers of freshly baked cookies, brownies, and bakery gifts in the United States, successfully competing against companies several decades older with deeper pockets. In 2007, the company will bake and ship several million cookies and brownies. Since partnering with Amazon.com on their gourmet food site, Geoff & Drew's have maintained the number one sales position for cookies with one of the highest ratings for customer satisfaction on the site. Last Christmas, their S'MORES Kit was selected as a top gift pick in a national press release by Amazon.com. Drew began his journey into the food business in 1996 at the age of 26 and his love affair with food in his mother's kitchen while growing up in Brooklyn, New York.
Drew has a passion for helping people and giving back, which translates into his businesses initiatives, including flawless customer service, unique packaging, grass roots marketing and public relations, partnerships, and charitable initiatives. He is considered an expert on the business of food and a pioneer with online food retail. Practicing what he preaches—never confuse your hobby with what it takes to make a successful business—he works with others on how to translate their passion into a business and maintains a tight focus on higher end baked goods and gourmet products which target discriminating purchasers. He has extensive experience in every facet of the food business, including manufacturing, finance, and distribution.
Prior to founding Geoff & Drew's, Drew was the executive vice president of Fresh Direct, a leading online grocery service focused on the delivery of highly differentiated, perishable goods and grocery products in New York City. In that role, he developed the company's corporate identity and authored their consumer and business-to-business marketing plans and customer service policies.
Prior to joining Fresh Direct, Drew was the youngest member of senior management serving as vice president of business development, customer service and sales for Shoplink.com, an internet grocer serving customers in Massachusetts and Connecticut. Reporting directly to the CEO and board of directors, he developed and oversaw all sales, business development, customer service, and facility roll-out initiatives. Under his leadership revenues grew from $5MM to $40MM in 18 months. The company was ranked number one in product innovation, selection, and customer satisfaction. He personally oversaw the development of a USDA food kitchen and worked directly with professional chefs, most notably Todd English, to develop new lines of food.
Prior to joining Shoplink.com, Drew launched Jones Soda and was president of Collegiate Student Storage, a warehousing and storage company serving college students at over 100 schools throughout the United States.
Drew's honors include: Top 25 Trendsetters by Modern Bride Magazine, Recipient of the 40 Under 40 Award by The Boston Business Journal, and Virgin Atlantic's Entrepreneur of The Year for 2007. He is a Founder and Past President of two chapters of the Young Entrepreneurs Organization (YEO) in Boston, Massachusetts and Fairfield, Connecticut and is very active in youth sports as a coach of several teams, including baseball, soccer, and basketball, in his hometown of Newton, Massachusetts. His charitable involvement numbers over fifty organizations including Autism Speaks, Susan G. Komen for the Cure, and The Gabe Kapler Foundation for the prevention of domestic violence against women. He is a graduate of Syracuse University with a degree in Finance and Economics.
His business mentors are many and include his family, various members of YEO; Jerry Greenfield, co-founder of Ben & Jerry's; Judy George, founder and CEO of Domain Home Furnishings; and Peter Castleman, Managing Partner of Whitney & Company—all of whom he credits with being there to answer the phone, pick up lunch and answer the tough questions, offering words of support and encouragement—and even investment capital.
