Ron Ben-Israel, chef-owner of one of the country's finest couture cake studios, began his confectionery adventure after a successful fifteen-year career as a professional ballet and modern dancer. After performing with dance companies on three continents, he focused his attention on his next great passion: cakes and sugar flowers. Apprenticeships and engagements in Toronto, Canada and Lyon, France led him to establish his own specialty cake business in the fashionable SoHo district of New York City.
Ron's elegant cakes were first discovered in 1996 while on display in the window of Mikimoto on Fifth Avenue. Commissions from Villeroy & Boch, Bloomingdales, Bergdorf-Goodman and others followed and quickly established his design studio as a favorite among celebrities and the style-conscious. His confectionary creations have appeared at the openings of the Mandarin Oriental, New York and The Ritz-Carlton and elaborate events at other premier hotels like The St. Regis and The New York Palace. Aside from serving the northeast, his cakes are frequently delivered to destinations throughout the continental U.S. and abroad.
Countless publications, including The New York Times, People, and InStyle, have featured his trendsetting designs. Ron is a favorite guest of Martha Stewart and was also featured on "The Late Show with David Letterman," Food Network's "Top Five," and "The Oprah Winfrey Show." Since 1999, Chef Ron has been sharing his passion, techniques, and secrets with The French Culinary Institute's pastry and culinary students through exclusive in-class lessons and exciting demos.
