It was a day of sweet celebration at The French Culinary Institute in New York City on Monday, June 6th, 2005 as PastryScoop.com announced the winners of the 2nd Annual Golden Scoop Awards.

Jacques Torres, The FCI's Dean of Pastry Arts and owner of Jacques Torres Chocolates and Chocolate Haven, kicked off the festivities with a pulled sugar demonstration. In less than an hour, Chef Torres created a whimsical sugar clown, complete with juggling balls and jester’s cap, reminiscent of his playful creations for the legendary restaurant Le Cirque.

Following the demonstration, The FCI's founder and CEO Dorothy Cann Hamilton and Food Arts founding editor and publisher Ariane Batterberry joined PastryScoop.com editor-in-chief Judiaann Woo for the awards presentation. The afternoon ended on a celebratory note with a champagne toast to all of the winners.

The Golden Scoop Awards were created in 2004 to recognize outstanding pastry and dessert innovation and excellence. A team of pastry chefs and food industry professionals reviewed over one hundred submissions, selecting five winners on the basis of originality, appearance, and taste. This year’s judges included Tish Boyle, food editor, Pastry Art & Design and Chocolatier; Tina Casaceli, pastry chef-coordinator, The French Culinary Institute; John Miele, pastry chef, Aureole; and Jim Poris and Gary Tucker, senior editors, Food Arts. The contest was open to all cooking professionals age 18 or older.
